Marriage Preparation at St. Procopius Parish Congratulations on your engagement! We hope to help you create a free space from which to discern your desires to marry each other before God.
Here are some of the important steps in the preparation process here at St Procopius Parish:
- It is highly recommended that you have been together as a serious relationship for at least one year
- At least four months preparation time before the wedding date
- Attend a one day "Pre-Cana" program offered through the Archdiocese. (Saturdays 9-4:30 pm; $190 per couple)
Pre-Cana Information
You will have at least 3 meetings with the priest: The first will be a brief conversation with the priest followed by time to each fill out the FOCCUS questionnaire. (180 questions)
- FOCCUS is not a test, nor does it forecast the future success of your marriage.
- The next meetings will stimulate discussions about how to improve your relationship and enrich your understanding of Matrimony. Additional meetings are sometimes useful.
- During the meetings the priest will help you complete the canonical forms for the Church.
A few weeks before the wedding you will choose your wedding readings and plan the liturgy. You can schedule a rehearsal at this time.
What you will need to bring some time during the process:
- Each of you will need to bring two witnesses to the office. Parents, siblings, cousins are preferable. The witness forms take 5 minutes to complete with the priest.
- Both of you will need to bring a recent copy of your baptismal certificate, issued within the last 6 months. You will need to contact the church where you were baptized.
- A copy of your confirmation certificate
- Marriage License. Visit city hall within 60 days of the wedding to APPLY for a license to marry ($40) and give it to the priest at least a week before the wedding. The church wedding has civil effects. If you are already civilly married, bring the official marriage document.
